Canberra Mission MarketplaceMinimize

The Canberra Mission Market Place is on again Saturday 6 November 2010. Our goal is to bring together missions minded Christians from the Canberra region and beyond to fellowship and net-work together. We see this as an excellent opportunity to encourage one another in our mission and outreach endeavours and be inspired and challenged through our keynote speaker David Cook, Principle of Sydney Missionary and  Bible College (SMBC)..

There will also be an opportunity to connect with a number of mission agencies and other organisations with an outreach focus.
The afternoon and evening’s program will be designed to encourage meaningful fellowship and fruitful interaction in a relaxed environment.

The conference is a Mission ACTion Network event. The aim of the Can-berra Mission ACTion Network is to connect mission minded people across Canberra, enabling us to share ideas, re-sources, events, and enthusiasm. Hence we are keen to attract mission minded Christians from all Christian denomina-tions to this conference.

Registration can be made online at the Mission ACTion Network website at http://missionaction.org.au Pre registration is encouraged but not essential. Registration at the venue on the day will be possible.

Conference Cost: $20 Per Person (Pre Registration)
Conference Cost: $25 Per Person (On Day Registration)
Includes lunch and dinner

SEMINARS

SEMINAR 1: “Crossing Cultures”, led by
Stan Ritchey (Regional Director, SIM Australia)

An understanding of culture is essential if we are to make the most of opportunities to share the Gospel in other cultural settings. This seminar will serve as a valuable introduction to this important topic and provide insights in areas such as defining culture, how cultural differences can present barriers to effective communication, avoiding the western Christian sub-culture and opportunities both here and abroad for cross-cultural outreach.

SEMINAR 2: “Maximum Impact: How your church can achieve maximum effectiveness in mission to the world’s poor”, led by
Ian Duncum (Church Relationships Coordinator, Baptist World Aid Australia)

Australian churches are rediscovering God’s call to care for the poor. But how do you choose those actions that will give the best returns on your church’s time, energy and money?  Discover the answers at this workshop.  You’ll explore the key dimensions of poverty, what it takes for people to be lifted out of poverty, the promises and pitfalls of mission to the poor, and how to unlock the exciting role your church has to play in ending global poverty.

SEMINAR 3: “Presenting Jesus to our Muslim friends”, led by
John and Magda Ackad (NSW Representatives, MECO International)

What do you say when someone with contradictory concepts about Jesus is persistent that you are wrong to think Jesus Christ is more than a prophet? Learn how to get through and present the true Jesus to the heart and mind of your Muslim neighbours.

SEMINAR 4: “Introduction to Biblical Bible Storytelling”,led by
Robert Love (NSW Regional Director, Wycliffe Australia)

Biblical storytelling is opening God’s Word to many people in Australia and overseas.  Storytellers who learn how to craft and tell short, memorable Bible stories find they can really bring the Bible alive to others.  The impact is being felt in many places, from tribal peoples who are oral learners, to the Scripture classes, churches and streets of Australia.  At this seminar, hear about the impact of Biblical storytelling, learn some of the basics of a story-crafting method and have a go at crafting a short Bible story yourself.

SEMINAR 5: “Human Trafficking”, led by
Janice Collins (National Director of International Teams in Australia)

Human Trafficking is a $9.5 billion industry across the globe. Learn about what this looks like on a global scale, with examples from different regions. Numerous groups are fighting human trafficking in various ways across the globe including coalitions of Christian ministries seeking to act for justice and mercy. Learn about these and ways in which you can get involved.

SEMINAR 6:  “Church Planting in Urban Slum Communities in Asia”, led by
Phil and Jenny Malone (Pioneers missionaries to the urban poor in Samut Prakan, Thailand)

The challenges in ministering to the urban poor are significant but the joys of seeing lives transformed are an immense source of encouragement. Join in this seminar to experience the work in these slum communities as Phil & Jen share passionately from their journey; be exposed to real life scenarios that will challenge your thinking in how to respond to the poor; and hear stories of people that now have hope. Also, hear of the tremendous opportunities for service in this ministry in just about any field of expertise you could imagine!
